Tutorial Transcript: Uploading Your Lists
Once you’ve logged into your Match2Lists account you’ll be able to manage and upload your information.
If you’re not already in the My Lists section, then click on the My Lists menu item.
Here you’ll see a summary of the various lists that you’ve uploaded, showing the Name of the List, the date it was uploaded and the number of rows in the list.
Click on the list in this summary to be taken to a detailed page showing you more information about it, including the country the list pertains to and the number of rows and columns, also notes any you added when it was uploaded.
You can see confirmation of how you described the columns of data within your list. You cannot change these descriptions once they have been set – but you can always upload the list again and use different descriptions.
In the list usage section you can see which of your active projects are using this list.
The Preview Data section shows you the first 25 rows of your list for reference.
At the top of this detailed page you’ll find the options to download this list and to delete it.
If you delete a list that has active projects associated with it, you will also be deleting these projects, but don’t worry — Match2Lists will warn you about this and ask for confirmation first.
Click the Back button to return to the My Lists summary.
You can add new lists from the My Lists summary page by clicking on the Add a List button, as I’ll do now.
Enter a name for your list.
You can add additional notes for future reference.
Next you need to choose the format of the list you’re uploading:
We currently support
- CSV
- TAB Delimited Files
- Pipe Delimited Files
Check our FAQ’s, Tutorials and Blog for more information about creating CSV or TAB delimited files. You’ll also find advice there, should you experience problems uploading your lists.
Next you’ll need to tell Match2Lists which country the data in your lists pertains t. This is required because one of the major benefits of Match2Lists over almost every other data matching software is that we don’t require you to program our system with complex transformation logic. This is all managed for you by Match2Lists.
The transformation logic handles common abbreviations and limits the matching value of generic terms such as Corporation and plc.
These vary from country to country, so select which country rules to apply to your list.
Again, check out our blog and FAQs for more information about Match2Lists transformation logic.
Now click on the browse button and select the file from your local system you want to upload, then click continue.
Your list is now being transferred to the Match2Lists web server. This could take anything from a few seconds to several minutes depending on the size of the list and the speed of your internet connection.
Once completed you’ll see a preview of your data to confirm the columns have been parsed correctly. If it looks good then click Continue.
The final step of the process is to describe the contents of each column in your list; Match2Lists will try to do this for you, but check carefully and correct as required.
Some columns in your list may not be relevant or supported by Match2Lists – select Ignore for these.
If you have columns of data that you would like to match that are not currently supported, please contact us, we’re keen to improve Match2Lists for you.
Once completed you will arrive back at the My Lists summary page where you’ll see your list with its status shown under the Rows column heading.
You will be able to monitor the status of the loading of your list onto our powerful cloud computing platform. On completion it will report the number of rows in the list.
Once completed, you will be able to use this list in your matching projects.
I hope you found this tutorial useful.
